64-bed facility established at Intl. Youth Hostel building
Mysore/Mysuru: Realising the desperate need of saving women from the killer pandemic and to make them feel that they are not marginalised, an exclusive COVID Care Centre (CCC) for women has been opened in city last evening at the International Youth Hostel building in Gokulam Second Stage. It is the first-of-its kind in Mysuru.
With the establishment of the women-only centre, the District Administration has given a new dimension to COVID care. The 64-bed facility will be managed by V.V. Puram Maternity Hospital staff with assistance from Ashakirana Hospital’s doctors and nurses. The CCC was inaugurated by Corporator Bhagya Madesh in the presence of MLA L. Nagendra, former MLC D. Madegowda and Deputy Commissioner Rohini Sindhuri.
It may be recalled here that the DC had mentioned a couple of days back that during a door-to-door survey of city Wards and rural pockets, it came to light that women are neglecting themselves and not reporting COVID infection and also they are unable to go and take rest in case of contracting the disease.
The survey brought to light that there is hesitancy among women to disclose symptoms and also reach out for treatment. Also, women are not sent to COVID Care Centres as there won’t be anyone to deal with household chores. This line of thought made the District Administration to set up women-only CCCs.
The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) was tasked with identifying Constituency-wise and Ward-wise COVID Care Centres to set up exclusive care facilities for women. Accordingly, the CCC was opened at International Youth Hostel building in Gokulam.
Expressing happiness over the CCC for women, Rohini Sindhuri said that such centres are opened with the main aim of helping those who cannot stay under isolation separately at home. “Mysuru will get additional three CCCs — one each at Chamaraja Constituency’s Government Naturopathy and Yoga Institute with 50 beds; at Krishnaraja Constituency’s Post-Matric Women’s BCM Hostel near RMC with 300 beds and Narasimharaja Constituency’s Farooqia Pharmacy College CCC with 200 beds. They are being set up to provide free treatment for public,” she said
In rural Mysuru, there are 19 CCCs and 1,700 people are being taken care of and the administration is looking at the possibility of setting up exclusive CCCs for women in taluk levels too, the DC added. Youth Hostel Mysuru Chairman Ravikumar, MCC Health Officer Dr. D.G. Nagaraj and others were present.
