Provide food, water to more than 150 strays daily
Mysore/Mysuru: To prevent the spread of Coronavirus, the entire nation has come under lockdown following the Union Government’s order from Mar. 24 midnight till the midnight of Apr.14, which has resulted in hotels, restaurants, fast-food joints, roadside eateries and bakeries closing down.
These places were the source of food for stray dogs which are now suffering from hunger and some of them dying.
Noting this, many animal-lovers have come forward to feed these animals. Similarly, two women — Hinkal Gram Panchayat Member Neha Naina and Gayathridevi of Vijayanagar — displaying their concern towards the stray dogs, are providing food and water to over 150 stray dogs every day.
Neha and Gayathridevi are now preparing 5 kg rice mixed with eggs, six litres milk and more than one kg of dog food, carry the prepared food in large container and are feeding the stray dogs twice a day at Vijayanagar 1st , 2nd and 4th Stages, Ring Road, Bogadi, Hinkal, KRS Road, Hootagalli Road and other places.
Inspired by these women who travelling around and feeding stray dogs, a few residents are now feeding strays in front of their houses.
Speaking to SOM, Neha said that they were voluntarily feeding the stray dogs without seeking any help from NGOs and added that they would continue feeding strays till they can.
Continuing, Neha said that for about five days she fed the strays alone and Gayathridevi, who saw her feeding, joined hands with her and they both are now feeding the dogs.
She further said that they are not financially sound to cater to the needs of all stray animals in city and urged the residents to feed stray dogs in their locality by placing food in a disposable plate in front of their houses as these stray animals could not express their hunger like human beings.
