Mysuru: Claiming that women are more supportive of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), State BSP President N. Mahesh said that the party needs to have women’s wing at every level.
He was speaking after inaugurating a seminar titled ‘Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s contribution for the liberation of women,’ organised by the BSP district unit to mark the inauguration of its women wing at Hotel Govardhan on Sri Harsha Road in city recently.
Regretting that even though a large chunk of women folk supported the BSP, the party lacked in grooming women leadership, Mahesh said however, the party was always in the forefront in addressing Dalit and women issues.
Referring to the ongoing spat between Congress and BJP leaders over marrying Dalit girls, the BSP leader said both the parties were indulging in cheap publicity in order to garner Dalit votes.
Alleging that the Congress and BJP were pursuing anti-Dalit and anti-women policies, he said that women should teach a fitting lesson to both the national parties in the next Assembly polls.
Earlier, floral tributes were offered to the portrait of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. BSP office-bearers Lakshmi Gopinath, Bheemanahalli Somesh, Shivamahadevu, Prabhuswamy, Nagaraju Nadanahalli, Pratap, Chikkamahadevu, Suresh, Siddaraju and others were present.
