Mysore/Mysuru: The Department of Kannada and Culture had organised ‘Mahila Samskrutika Utsava’ (Women’s Cultural Fest) at Kalamandira premises recently.
District Minister S.T. Somashekar, who inaugurated the event, recalled the contribution of women to society. “Our society is based upon folk culture and its rich tradition. Mysuru is a cultural city. Now, Mahila Samskrutika Utsava is being held in our city which is very meaningful,” he said.
MLA L. Nagendra, who presided over the programme, said he has released a grant of Rs. 10 lakh from Legislator’s fund for construction of parking space, following request by Kannada and Culture Department. He also advised to use Rs. 10 lakh – Rs. 15 lakh for development of basic infrastructure in Kalamandira.
Kannada and Culture Assistant Director H. Chennappa also spoke on the occasion.
Later, singers troupe comprising Vismaya, Bhavatarini, Nisarga, Dr. Snehasri, Amulya and Prema rendered Sugama Sangeeta while Shwetha Madappadi recited devotional songs, team of Bhagyamma and Siddamma rendered Sobane pada, Abhivyakti Folk Team recited folk songs and members of Mahalakshmi Mahila Samaja recited bhajans.
Mahamayi Trust staged the drama ‘Maha Poornima’. Ramya and team of Mysuru presented Dollu Kunita, team of Katyayini and Zelina presented fusion dance, Pavitra and her team showcased Kamsale, Amrita and team presented Nagari and Tamate Kunita, Pallavi and team from T. Narasipur presented Puja Kunita, Vidu. Namrata S. Jois and team presented a dance drama. Rangageethe by Indiramma and team enthralled the audience.
Rangoli contest, Mehendi drawing, preparation of nutritious food without stove, hairstyling contest, handicraft exhibition were also held as part of the cultural festival.
MLA G.T. Devegowda, ZP President Parimala Shyam, Vice President Gowramma Somashekar, MUDA Chairman H.V. Rajeev and others were present on the occasion.
