Women’s KPL: Vrinda and Sahana steer Belagavi Panthers to a convincing win

Belagavi Panthers convincingly defeated Bijapur Bulls by 7 wickets in the second Women’s Exhibition Match of KPL-2018 at the SDNR Wadiyar Stadium in city yesterday.

Batting first, Bijapur Bulls got off to a slow start. They were at 23 for 2 after the completion of 6 overs. They were constantly troubled by left-arm spinner Sahana Pawar (3 for 18). Sahan Pawar with her angle troubled the batsmen. The scoring rate dipped badly with wickets falling at regular intervals. The Bijapur Bulls were reduced to 42 for 5 at the end of the 10th over. The bowlers piled the pressure on the batsmen and enforced errors and the Bulls slumped to 65 for 8 in 15 overs. Nikki Prasad played a gritty knock of 17 runs from 25 balls to push the scorecard to 84 for 9 in their 20 overs.

In reply, Belagavi Panthers seemed be in control of the game. Opener Vrinda Dinesh (37 n.o.) held her nerve and batted sensibly and carried her bat throughout the innings to seal a victory for the Panthers. Vrinda 37 n.o (38b,5×4,0x6) displayed a wide range of shots and paced her innings as per the circumstances. She was well supported by C Prathyuksha (20 n.o.). The Belagavi Panthers reached the score of 85 for 3 with more than three overs to spare.
