Members of women’s organisations seen beating the drums during the ‘Save Democracy’ jatha in city yesterday to draw the attention of the government.

Mysuru:  Activists of various women’s organisations took out a jatha in city yesterday to demand saving of democracy and maintenance of harmony in the society.

The jatha titled ‘Shantiyedege Namma Nadige’ began from North Gate of the Palace and culminated at the Town Hall.

Addressing the protestors at Town Hall, noted writer Devanur Mahadeva said that women coming together from different parts of the country to ‘Save Democracy’ was a good sign.

Claiming that the Constitution now was under threat, Mahadeva said tampering of the Constitution had resulted in disharmony across the country and it was important that women’s organisations from across the country arrived in the city for taking part in the jatha that aimed at sending out a message to the Government.

Pointing out that Kannadigas should go to other States for creating awareness on threat to the Constitution, he complimented the women’s organisations for organising the rally.

Earlier, members of women’s organisations of Kerala led by social activists Shabnam Hashmi were received by local women’s organisations.

Farmer leader Hoskote Basavaraj, ODP’s Sunitha, Prof. Preeti, Abhiruchi Ganesh and others were present.
