Workshop on investment banking for MBA students

Mysuru:  Morgan Stanley Investment Bank, Tokyo, Global Derivatives Support Manager, Daniel Madar said that it is very important for the Corporate to keep a tab on market conditions and change accordingly in order to keep the value of their Initial Public Offering (IPO) high.

He was speaking at a day-long workshop on “Investment banking and Impact of Bank Consolidation on Corporate Finance,” organised by the JSS Centre for Management Studies (CMS), Department of Management Studies, JSS Science and Technology University, for the students of MBA Corporate Finance and MBA Finance Students at its premises here recently.

Explaining the role of Investment Bank in Corporate Finance, he said one of the important roles it plays is the role of Underwriter in IPO. Along with the audit firms, they perform due diligence investigations in conjunction with the drafting of the registration statement.

“An  IPO can not only provide a company with access to capital to fuel growth and liquidity for founders and investors, but it provides the public market’s unofficial stamp of approval. The capital raised through a successful public offering boosts a business’ ability to expand into new markets or grow through acquisitions,” he said.

Corporation Bank General Manager (retd.)  Ranga Swamy, presently a Visiting Professor at JSS CMS, spoke on the Impact of Bank Consolidation on Corporate Finance.

“The major NPAs in banking sector are Corporate. The cost and timing of the loan from the banks are driving the corporate to the market for loans. The bank consolidation in fact has turned to be a booster to Mergers and Acquisitions through which the Corporate is using ‘haircut’-contraction-and expansion in their attempt at financial restructure,” he said.

JSS S&T University Vice- Chancellor Dr. B.G. Sangameshwara presented the RBI Survey Certificates to five MBA CF students Asha, Adithi, Ponnamma, Raghavendra and Charan who participated in the live project of RBI – Survey on ‘Impact of GST and Demonetisation on MSMES in Mysore District by the RBI.

JSS CMS Head of the Department Dr. P. Nagesh, convener, welcomed.

Adjunct Professor and Programme Coordinator Dr. Bettina C. Sudhaker proposed a vote of thanks. Students from Vidya Vikas Engineering College also participated in the workshop.
