Workshop on ‘Chromatography and DNA Amplification’ held

Mysore/Mysuru: The Post-Graduate Department of Bio-technology, JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, had organised a  two-day regional level workshop on ‘Fermentation Process, Chromatography and DNA Amplification’ under the aegis of Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society, Dept. of IT, BT and S&T, Govt. of Karnataka, at the College premises on Ooty Road in city recently.

Dr. Dharmaprasad, Managing Director, Prosetta Bioconformatics Pvt. Ltd., Mysuru, inaugurated the symposium and delivered the keynote address.

In his keynote address, he spoke on job opportunities for students of biology and bio-technology like in R & D, Biopharma, clinical trials, regulatory affairs, medical writing, project management, etc. He emphasised on the different skills like analytical thinking, assay methodology, design of experiments, trouble shooting, soft skill, critical thinking, observation skills, etc. which the students should learn during the course of their studies.

Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive, JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science, Mysuru, presided over the function and he gave an insight on importance and applications of fermentation process, chromatography and DNA amplification in  life sciences subjects and in particular to Bio-technology. 

Prof. M. Mahadevappa, College Principal, welcomed the guests. Dr. N. D. Rekha, Organising Secretary of the workshop proposed vote of thanks. 

Dr. B.Y. Sathish Kumar, Workshop Convenor & HoD, PG Department of Bio-technology, was also present.

The resource persons for the technical sessions were Prof. B.S. Gowrishankar, Head, Dept. of Bio-technology, Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumakuru and Prof. Ramachandra R. Kini, DOS in Bio-technology, University of Mysore.

During the two-day workshop, nearly 50 Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate students from Life Science stream from different colleges participated.
