Workshop on formulation of District Disaster Management Plan

Mysuru: The two-day workshop on ‘Revision and Formulation of District Disaster Management Plan’ for Group-A and Group-B employees of all concerned Departments, sponsored by the Revenue Department, being held at the District Training and Extension Centre, Nazarbad, in the city, will conclude today.

Delivering the keynote address during the inauguration yesterday, O. Chandra Nayak, faculty, Administrative Training Institute (ATI), Mysuru, said that the workshop is aimed at training the participants on following the NDMA (National Disaster Management Action) guidelines, ways of revising District Disaster Management Plans from time to time, filling up DDMP forms, online usage of DDMP forms and updation of District Disaster Management Operation and Action Plans, among others.

Pointing out that the Disaster Management Act came into force from 2005, Chandra Nayak explained the role of the respective Departments in revising their plans for effecting prevention, handling and management of disasters and natural calamities on a regular basis, year after year.  Emphasising that the Golden Hour during natural disasters is very vital for saving lives and properties, he asked the participants to get themselves appropriately trained and updated on the latest advancements in handling disasters.

Earlier, ZP Asst. Secretary Manoj Kumar, who inaugurated the workshop, gave a brief on the importance of planning and action for prevention and management of disasters and natural calamities.

He further said that it is important to upload the latest plans on websites and portals, so that the members of the public can get vital inputs on handling natural disasters and join the agencies in relief and rescue operations.

Centre Head K.V. Shivaramaiah and others were present. About 40 ‘A’ and ‘B’ Group employees from various State Govts. are taking part in this workshop, which features sessions, lectures, power point presentations etc.
