World Heritage Day at Mysuru Rail Museum

Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru Rail Museum, under the patronage of South Western Railway (SWR), celebrated World Heritage Day 2024 by organising a special event focused on the theme ‘Disasters and Conflicts through the Lens of the Venice Charter.’

The event featured a Round Table Discussion where experts in the field of heritage conservation gathered to emphasise the importance of documenting heritage assets for preservation.

During the engaging discussion, the experts highlighted the critical need to utilise modern technical tools for documenting and safeguarding heritage sites. They emphasised the significance of collaborative efforts between rail enthusiasts and Government bodies to ensure the protection and conservation of valuable heritage assets.

T.R. Raghunandan, a rail enthusiast and conservation expert of rail heritage, Architect D.S. Ramakrishna Rao, Dean, Mysuru School of Architecture and Prof. Rangaraju, Head of INTACH, Mysuru Chapter, participated in the discussions.

Shilpi Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, SWR, Mysuru Division, gave away the prizes to the winners of the drawing/painting and quiz competition held on this occasion.

She thanked the speakers and the audience for their enthusiastic engagement in preserving our rich heritage. She underscored the Museum’s commitment to promoting awareness and understanding of the importance of conserving heritage assets for future generations.

The event concluded with a resolve to continue the dialogue and work towards implementing effective strategies for safeguarding heritage assets of the Railways in the face of disasters and conflicts, in accordance with the principles of the Venice Charter.
