Mysore/Mysuru: World Heritage Day is observed every year on Apr. 18 and this year’s theme is “Heritage Changes.” The week-long celebrations by the Indian Railways include conferences, lectures, seminars, essay and drawing competition for children and ideas to promote green energy to fight climate change.
The Mysuru Rail Museum is among the earliest rail museums to be set up in the country to showcase exhibits like vintage steam locomotives, royal saloon, inspection coaches, goods wagons and other system equip-ment of the Railways built by the erstwhile rulers of Mysore Kingdom in the later part of the 19th century. These relics have immense significance in terms of heritage and every effort is made to preserve them for posterity.
Mysuru Rail Museum will conduct an essay writing competition for students in two age groups — 5 to 12 years and 12 to 18 years — on what the roadmap of the Indian Railways should be to fight climate change.
The maximum number of words is restricted to 750 and the time allotted is 2 hours. Paper will be supplied by the Railways. There is no entry fee.
Interested students can send their entries for the essay writing competition which starts at 10 am on Apr. 18 in the Rail Museum premises on KRS Road, Mysuru. Entries can be submitted up to 6 pm on Apr. 17.
A jury of senior Railway officials will evaluate the essays and three prizes will be given to the best ones in both the categories.
Entries with details like name, age and address can be mailed to: sserailmuseummysuru@gmail.com or sent on WhatsApp to 91648-72586.
