Wrestling Tourney held as part of Ittigegud Karaga Mahotsava

A day after the Karaga Mahotsava at Ittigegud, it was the pailwans to showcase their strength at the D. Devaraja Urs Multipurpose Grounds located next to Dasara Exhibition Grounds.

The traditional wrestling tournament organised as a part of Sri Chamundeshwari and Sri Mariyamma 100th Karaga Mahotsava witnessed 55 pairs of wrestlers from various parts of the State vying for the glory.

Prior to entering wrestling akhada, the wrestlers offered prayers to the deities at the temple.

While most of the wrestling bouts ended in a draw some ended with one of the wrestlers emerging victorious.

Pailwan Suryakanth defeated Pailwan Santosh of Pandavapura at the last moment to win the silver maze.

Despite rains, wrestling enthusiasts, who had gathered in large numbers, got to witness some of best wrestling bouts with pailwans involved in intense fight.

Results

Pailwan Pawan of Ramanagar defeated Pailwan Michael Raj of Fakir Ahmed Garadi; Pailwan Sinchana of Rammanahalli defeated Pailwan Smitha of Kanakapura; Pailwan Krishna Gopal of Ramnahalli defeated Pailwan Darshan of Harohalli; Pailwan Sanjay of Kyathamaranahalli defeated Pailwan Shivaraj of Mysuru; Pailwan Harshith of Yaraganahalli defeated Pailwan Rohit of Paduvarahalli; Pailwan Sanjay of Bannur defeated Pailwan Bhuvan of Veeranagere.

Soon after the bouts, wrestlers were also given honorariums by the organisers. MLAs K. Harishgowda and T.S. Srivatsa, BJP leader Kaveesh Gowda, Congress leader S.R. Ravikumar and others were present.
