Writer demands probe into irregularities at District Kannada Sahitya Parishat

April 25, 2017

Writer D.N. Krishnamurthy has urged the Government to order a probe into the alleged irregularities in District Kannada Sahitya Parishat, even as Mysuru city is gearing up to host the 83rd Akhila Bharatha Kannada Sahitya Sammelana shortly.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, a copy of which has been sent to Kannada and Culture Minister Umashree, District in-charge Minister Dr.H.C. Mahadevappa, State Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Manu Baligar and six other top officials, Krishnamurthy has alleged that a group in the Mysuru Kannada Sahitya Parishat had indulged in corruption and other irregularities and the holding of the National-level Kannada Literary Meet under the guidance of this group was certainly going to bring a bad name to the Government.

Accusing the group of massive corruption in the running of the District Sahitya Parishat, he alleged that the revenue generated from the Sahitya Bhavan in Vijayanagar, had not been audited.

Accusing former District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Maddikere Gopal of swindling the Parishat revenue, Krishnamurthy said the incumbent President Dr. Y.D. Rajanna, who is a veterinary doctor by profession, is unable to do justice to his job as Sahitya Parishat President.

Maintaining that Dr. Rajanna, who is a Government servant, cannot head an autonomous institution such as the Kannada Sahitya Parishat, he claimed that Rajanna is holding both the posts because of his political clout.

Alleging that former District Kannada Sahitya Parishat Presidents Maddikere Gopal and M. Chandrashekar had failed to get the accounts audited and had cheated the Parishat to the tune of lakhs of rupees, Krishnamurthy claimed that the two were successful in getting their own candidate Dr. Rajanna elected to the post.

Stating that the hosting of the Literary Meet under the leadership of the two would be disastrous, he demanded a thorough probe into the alleged irregularities committed by the duo, amounting to lakhs of rupees.
