Writer Dr. H.S. Sujatha no more

Mysore/Mysuru: Retired Professor, writer Dr. H.S. Sujatha (77) passed away at Vasavi Shantidhama in Alanahalli yesterday.

She leaves behind her husband Dr. S. Ramananda Shetty. As per her wishes, her body was donated to JSS Hospital, according to sources.

She had obtained Ph.D from the University of Mysore (UoM) for her thesis titled ‘M.S. Puttanna – Ondu Adhyayana’ submitted under the guidance of Ha.Ma. Nayak. She had served as Kannada Professor at D. Banumaiah’s Commerce and Arts College and retired. She had enormously donated to educational and art institutions.

She had to her credit over 25 books including ‘Hakkiya buddi mattu etara aidu kathegalu’, ‘Hasu mattu heggana mattu etara yelu kathegalu’, ‘Gumma nayakana palayada paleyagararu’, ‘Siteya Bhavishya’ and books on research, critique, translation, poetry, children’s literature, life history and columns.

She had been honoured with ‘Mallika Award’ given by Kannada Sahitya Parishat, ‘Atyuttama Srijanasheela Anuvada Puraskara’ given by Karnataka Sahitya Academy, ‘Atyuttama Anuvada Prashasti’ by Gorur Pratishtana, ‘Attimabbe Sahitya Prashasti’ by Attimabbe Pratishtana and ‘Gopalakrishna Adiga Smaraka Sahitya Prashasti’ by Dehali Kannadiga monthly.

She was also the member of Mysore University Degree Education Kannada Study Board and Member of Degree Textbook Preparation Committee.
