Mysuru: Scion of erstwhile royal family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar performed rituals related to Ayudha puja and Vijayadashami at Mysore Palace on Monday and Tuesday respectively. On Tuesday, Vijayadashami started with the honoring of six married couples, known as ‘Dampathi puja’.
Thereafter, Yaduveer offered prayers at Amba Vilasa Ganapathi Temple and arrived at Kalyana Mantapa for a second worship of the royal arms. He entered the courtyard holding the sacred flower-decked sword, flanked by Arasu community members who also held swords.
Meanwhile, outside the Palace courtyard, wrestlers fought bouts with Vajra Mushti (knuckleduster), until they drew blood. Then Yaduveer took out Vijayadashami yatra in his car up to Sri Bhuvaneshwari temple and performed Banni puja. He did not, however, use the usual silver chariot this time. The yatra was accompanied by Pattada Aane (State elephant) Pattada Hasu (State cow), Pattada Vante (State camel), Pattada Kudure (State horse), gold palanquin with royal weapons, Birudankitas, Police Band, Mangala Vadya, Deevatige etc.
After performing Banni puja under the guidance of royal priests, Yaduveer distributed flowers used for puja among those who were present and offered ‘Kanike’ to the priests, before returning to the Palace in a Vijaya Yatre. The puja rituals took place between 9.30 and 11.45 am on Tuesday.
