Mysuru: Yakshagana ‘Sri Krishna Leelamrutha-Kamsa Vade’ will be staged on Thursday (Jan.18) at Alwar Kala Bhavan in Gokulam 3rd Stage at 6 pm under the aegis of Sri Krishna Gana Sabha and Kannada and Culture Department, Bengaluru.
Yakshagana will be enacted by Sri Mahaganapathi Art and Cultural Foundation, Udupi, under the direction of Sri Gopala Krishna Bhat.
Summary: In Hindu mythology, Kamsa was the tyrant ruler of Vrishni kingdom with its capital at Mathura. He is the brother of Devaki, the mother of Krishna, who slew Kamsa. Kamsa is described as human in early sources and a rakshasa (demon) in Puranas. His royal house was called Bhoja, and another of his names was Bhojapati. Kamsa was born to King Ugrasena and Queen Padmavati. However, out of ambition and upon the advice of his personal confidantes, Banasura and Narakasura, Kamsa decided to overthrow his father and install himself as the King of Mathura. Finally, Krishna arrives in Mathura and slain his uncle Kamsa.
