Mysuru: Adding to numerous FIRs at city Police Stations, another FIR has been registered at Kuvempunagar Police Station against Soundar Raj alias Chinnathambi, who is accused of cheating thousands of customers by luring them with advertisements offering gold loans at low interest rates and thus cheating them to the tune of crores of rupees after getting their gold ornaments pledged with him.
The FIR was registered following a complaint from B. Deepika and Shashikumar, residents of Sampige Layout in Bengaluru.
The complaint stated that on June 12, Deepika received a call from an unknown number and the caller informed her that they would give more money for their gold if they pledged the same with them. On June 19, Deepika called the number from which she had got the call and informed that she wanted to pledge her gold with them and at about 12.30 pm on the same day, representatives of Chinnathambi came to her house and she took them to the bank in which she had pledged her gold ornaments weighing 118 grams and got it released.
She and her husband then boarded the car in which Chinnathambi’s representatives had come and came to Narasimha Jewellers on Adichunchanagiri Road at Kuvempunagar in Mysuru, where they met Chinnathambi and handed him over the 118-gram gold jewellery.
But Chinnathambi, without their permission, melted the gold jewellery in front of them to which they objected and told him that they had come to pledge their gold and not sell it.
Chinnathambi then told them that he had melted the gold to check its purity and took the melted gold inside. Chinnathambi, who came out after sometime, told them that their gold was not 916 purity but was just 26.2 pure.
Shocked on hearing it, the couple told him that their gold was 916 pure and demanded Chinnathambi to return their gold.
Chinnathambi, who allegedly threatened the couple, told them that they would not get it back, abused them, threatened the couple with life and reportedly touched Deepika inappropriately and pushed her. When her husband Shashikumar questioned it, he was allegedly assaulted and threatened.
The complaint further stated that the couple were taken to another shop of Chinnathambi in Srirampura where they were locked inside for about three hours but managed to escape from there. As they were afraid that Chinnathambi may kill them, they had kept quiet but took courage and lodged a complaint.
