Mysuru, Oct. 19 (MTY&VNS)- City’s tennis prodigy Padmapriya Ramesh Kumar, who had recently emerged as the winner in U-14 Girls Doubles and runner-up in the Singles at the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship – 2025 held at New Delhi recently, is once again in news as she won the doubles and emerged as runner-up in singles at the Under 14 Girls Asian Tennis Tournament 2025 (Category 1) organised by Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) at The Dream House Resort Tennis Academy, Jaipur, recently.
In the Doubles finals, Padmapriya partnering with Krishika Gautham, also from Karnataka, defeated the Indo-US pair of Sarena Gehlot (Haryana) and Sahej Lekhat (USA). Having lost the first set 5-7, Padmapriya and Krishika came back strongly to win the second set 6-0. With both teams tied at 1-1, the match went into a tie-breaker in which Padmapriya and Krishika triumphed with a score of 10-5. However, Padmapriya lost the singles finals to Sarena Gehlot with the score of 0-6, 2-6.
It may be noted that Padmapriya is currently ranked No. 1 in U-14 Girls category in the country. A Class 8 student of Excel Public School, Mysuru, Padmapriya is the daughter of Dr. P. Ramesh Kumar, Conservator of Forests (Project Tiger), Mysuru and Dr. Malathi Priya, Conservator of Forests (Mysuru Circle). Raghuveer Ponnuswamy and Pawan are her coaches while Sagar is her fitness trainer.
