Young singers bring alive O.P. Nayyar’s golden era of music

 Young singers belting out a popular number at the ‘O.P. Nayyar musical nite’ organised by Rotary Ivory City at  Platinum Jubilee Hall in J.K. Grounds here last evening.

Mysuru: The melody of yesteryear songs of film music composer, singer-songwriter, music producer and musician O.P. Nayyar was brought alive by a bevy of young singers at the Platinum Jubilee Hall of Mysore Medical College and Research Institute, J.K. Grounds, here yesterday.

The evening of musical entertainment “O.P.Nayyar Musical Nite’ was organised by Rotary Ivory City, Mysuru as part of its ‘Fund Raising Project,’ and the foot-tapping numbers, each more melodious and peppy than the other, had the audience in raptures.

The programme began with a group of young female singers singing ‘Reshmi salwar kurta  jalika’ from the movie Naya Daur and this was followed by singers V.N. Prasad (the main organiser of the show) dressed in O.P. Nayyar’s trademark  attire with a hat and Jayanthi Bhat singing the melodious ‘Isharo Isharo mein dil lene wale,’ from the movie Kashmir Ki Kali.

Singer Shabbir with the song ‘Yu to hamne laakh haseen dekhe hain’ from the movie Tumsa Nahin Dekha, singers Ashwin and Mamata singing ‘Aap yuhin agar ham se milte rahe’ from the movie Ek musafir ek hasina and the leader of the troupe Prasad singing the solo number ‘Pukarata chal hoon mein’ from the movie Mere Sanam had the audience wanting for more.

This followed a few more solo numbers from Shabbir singing ‘Kisina kisi se kabina kabi’ from the movie Kashmir ki Kali, singer Ankita with ‘Eh kya kar dala tune dil tera hogaya’ from the movie Howrah Bridge, Ashwin coming up with the second number from the movie Tumsa Nahin Dekha ‘Jawani aaye mast bin piye’ drew the applause of the audience.

The non-stop singing continued with Prasad and Sahana in a duet singing ‘Aankohi aankon mein ishara hogaya’ from the movie C.I.D, singer Mamata with ‘Jara holle holle chalo more sajana’ from the movie Sawan ki ghata followed by a duet ‘Bahut shukriya badi meher bani’ sung by Shabbir and Jayanthi from the movie Ek musafir ek hasina and once again another duet by Prasad and Jayanthi  with ‘Naznin bada rangeen hai vada tera’ from the movie Phir wohin dil laya hoon was followed by singers Mamata and Ashwin singing ‘Piya piya piya’ from the movie Anokha Bandan.

Some of the popular numbers of O.P. Nayyar included ‘Chanda sa roshan chehara’ ‘Laakhon hi laakhon mein ishara ho gaya’ ‘Mera naam chun chun’ ‘Kajara mohabbat wala’ ‘Mein pyar ka rahin hoon’ were all sung by the melodious troupe of singers which not only brought the memories alive of a bygone era but showed how the golden oldies will never go out of the minds of even the youngest hearts singing from the hearts.
