Mysuru: Four months after the incident, the N.R. Police have been successful in cracking a tricky case, where a conman had taken away a parcel containing brand new cell phones from a KSRTC driver after falsely claiming himself as the consignee, with the arrest of a youth.
The arrested has been identified as Puneet Singh, 23, a resident of A.J. Block in N.R. Mohalla of the city.
Acting on a tip off, the Police picked up Puneet Singh on Oct.4. During interrogation, he confessed to have picked the box containing mobile phones from a KSRTC driver at Fountain Circle in the city about four months ago, following which the box containing 33 mobile phones totally worth about Rs.4.4 lakh was recovered from his house.
Case details: A cell phone dealer at Pandavapura had dispatched a parcel containing 33 mobile phones on June 8, 2018 through a KSRTC bus driver which was meant to be delivered to his (dealer’s) Assistant at Mysuru at KSRTC Sub-Urban Bus Stand. But Puneet Singh, probably knowing about it, took the parcel box from the driver when the KSRTC bus stopped at Fountain Circle, after falsely claiming himself as the consignee. But the bus driver was in soon reaching the Sub-Urban Bus Stand, when the real consignee, the Pandavapura dealer’s Assistant asked the driver for the parcel.
The mobile phone dealer had lodged a complaint with the N.R. Police in this regard. The nabbing and recovery operation was carried out by N.R. Police Inspector Basavaraj, SI N. Mohan and staff Ramesh, Manjunath, Mahadev and Krishna.
