Youth goes missing after jumping into River Cauvery

Srirangapatna: A 20-year-old youth, who had come to KRS Dam with his friends, reportedly jumped into River Cauvery all of a sudden and is not found. The incident took place on Tuesday morning near the check-post, close to the dam.

The youth, who jumped into the river and went missing, is Srujan, a resident of Paduvarahalli in Mysuru and pursuing his second year B.Com course at a private college in Mysuru.

On Tuesday morning, Srujan, along with his friends in three bikes, went to KRS Dam and before reaching the dam, they clicked selfies in front of a fish booth near the check-post and proceeded towards the dam.

According to the complaint lodged by Srujan’s father with KRS Police, while on the way to the dam, Srujan told his friends to move ahead, but he suddenly jumped into the river.

As over 70,000 cusecs of water was released from KRS Dam yesterday, River Cauvery was flowing in full spate and as soon as Srujan jumped into the river, he was swept away and has remained untraceable.

Efforts are being made to trace and fish out his body and the reason for Srujan to jump into the river is not known yet.

KRS Police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
