Youth sentenced to 7 years imprisonment for attempting to murder his aunt

The Principal District and Sessions Court Judge P.G.M. Patil has sentenced a youth for seven years imprisonment and has imposed a fine of Rs. 8,000 for trying to murder his paternal aunt over property dispute.

While the youth has been identified as Srikanth, a resident of Vinayakanagar, the woman has been identified as Nagamma.

The case: On May 3, 2011, Srikanth, who barged into the house of his aunt Nagamma, residing in the same street, where he resided in Vinayakanagar, in the pretext of enquiring about the health of Nagamma’s father, picked up a quarrel over a property and tried to assault Nagamma’s father. Nagamma, who was nearby, tried to stop Srikanth which enraged him and launched a murderous attack on Nagamma’s head using a beer bottle and a knife.

Nagamma then screamed for help, which attracted the neighbours who rushed to the house. However, Srikanth had escaped by then. Nagamma’s son Mohan Kumar later lodged a complaint at Jayalakshmipuram Police Station in this regard.

Jayalakshmipuram Inspector Kyathegowda, who registered a case, conducted investigation and submitted a charge-sheet against Srikanth to the Court.

Judge Patil, who heard the arguments, found Srikanth guilty of the crime and gave the above judgement.

Public Prosecutor H.E. Chinnappa argued for the State.
