Mysuru: The documentary ‘Yugapurusha Basavanna,’ produced by Kalpa Heritage Trust, Mysuru and directed by Dr. V.R. Anil Kumar, has been awarded the ‘Certificate of Excellence’ at 13th Mumbai Shorts International Festival-2024 held at Mumbai recently.
The documentary is about the Life & Times of 12th Century Social Reformer, Basavanna.
This documentary is the eighth in the series of documentaries produced by Kalpa Heritage Trust. The others are titled ‘Samaveda Sangita’ (5 parts), ‘Sangita Pitamaha Purandaradasa,’ ‘Sangita Kalanidhi Mysore Vasudevacharya.’ The earlier documentaries were produced using resource persons such as Vid. Manjunatha Shrouthi, Vidushi Sukanya Prabhakar, Vid. Aravinda Hebbar and others.
For the documentary on
Basavanna, it was decided to visit places where Basavanna had lived such as Basavana Bagewadi, Kudala Sangama, Basava Kalyana and interview knowledgeable persons in those areas and extract the story of Basavanna’s life.Since Vachanas are integral part of his life, Vachanas sung by Vid. Prabhu Sonna from Jevargi were included in 45-minute documentary.
The documentary on Basavanna was launched on Sept. 22 by K.B. Ganapathy, Founder-Editor, Star of Mysore and Mysuru Mithra, at Kalpa Kshetra auditorium in Vijayanagar, in the presence of Dr. Sharad Chandra Swamiji of Kunturu Mutt, Mysuru.
