‘123rd Amendment Bill of Constitution could be detrimental to backward classes’

July 21, 2017

Mysuru: Karnataka Social Justice Forum (KSJF) had organised a seminar on ‘123rd Amendment Bill of Constitution -2017: Consequences,’ at The Institution of Engineers India, (IEI) on JLB Road here recently.

Inaugurating the programme,  K.N. Lingappa, Member, Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission opined that if the 123rd Amendment Bill of the Constitution -2017 was implemented without any changes, it would be detrimental to the backward classes. He appreciated the idea of providing constitutional rights to National Backward Classes Commission but other points in the Bill was not good for the community.

He pointed out that 1,351 categories were identified under Backward Class in the socio-economic survey conducted by State Government in 2015 which should all be covered under the new amendment otherwise it would be a set back for the Community. Hence, he suggested the Commission Chairman of  Southern States to meet and arrive at a decision to be intimated to the Centre.

Mysuru University Political Science Professor Muzzafar Assadi spoke on the topic.

Former Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University P. Venkataramaiah presided. JSS Law College PG Department Head Dr. S. Nataraj, Forum Chief Convenor and MyLac Chairman H.A. Venkatesh and others were present.
