130 buffalo pairs registered, Govt. approval awaited

August 10, 2026

Mysuru: While Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai, who also chairs the organising committees of major Kambala events, has declared that Dasara Kambala is a “done deal” and Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has confirmed that the event will be held in Mysuru, sources in Dasara Kambala organising committee admit that uncertainty still surrounds the event.

A committee member, requesting anonymity, told Star of Mysore that ‘Mysuru Dasara Kambala’, scheduled for October this year, has been listed as the inaugural event of 2026 Kambala calendar. However, organisers are still awaiting formal approval from the State Government.

“More than 130 pairs of buffaloes have already been registered for the event. However, constructing the Kambala track requires at least two to three months of preparation. With no official clearance from the State Government amid continuing opposition, we are in a wait-and-watch situation pending final Government  orders,” he said.
