$15,000 Turkey Women’s Tennis: City’s Dhruthi goes down in pre-quarters

Mysuru-based Dhruthi T. Venugopal, representing India in the $15,000 ITF Women’s Tennis Tournament at Antalya, Turkey, lost in the Women’s Singles pre-quarter-finals yesterday. Rebacca Marino (Can) beat Dhruthi 6-3, 6-1 to enter the quarter-finals in the Women’s Singles event.

In the first round, Dhruthi had scored a 6-2, 6-4 win over Turkey’s Illay Yoruk to progress further.

In the Women’s Doubles event, Dhruthi teaming up with Riya Bhatia went down the third seeded pair of Ipek Oz (Tur) & Melis Sezer (Tur) 1-6, 1-6 in the quarter-finals. In pre-quarterfinals, Dhruthi and Riya Bhatia combined well to beat Mihaela Djakovic (Ser) & Aleksandra Pospelova (Rus) 7-5, 5-7, 10-7.
