2,000 Vokkaligas take out rally in city against Centre

Mysuru: Over 2,000 Vokkaliga community members, under the joint banner of Mysuru-Chamarajanagar District Vokkaliga Association, Rajya Yuva Vokkaliga Sangha and a host of other Vokkaliga organisations, took part in a massive rally in the city this morning condemning the arrest of Senior Congress MLA D.K. Shivakumar (DKS) by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and demanding immediate release of the former Minister, who is a Vokkaliga leader.

The rally, which commenced from Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple, passed through Gandhi Square, Big Clock Tower, Old Bank Road, Sayyaji Rao Road, Dufferin Clock Tower, D. Devaraj Urs Road, JLB Road, Metropole Circle and Vinoba Road before reaching the DC’s Office.

With youths beating the drums, the rallyists raised slogans against the Centre and the BJP for arresting DKS and termed it unconstitutional. The rallyists holding placards, demanded their leader’s immediate release.

 The protestors, after staging a demonstration near the DC Office, presented a memorandum in English, addressed to the Prime Minister in this regard, through ADC B.R. Poornima.

MLA and former Minister S.R. Mahesh, former MLAs M.K. Somashekar and Kalale Keshavamurthy, Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath, former Mayors R. Lingappa and Modamani, KPCC Women’s Wing President Dr. Pushpa Amarnath, Corporators K.V. Sridhar and SBM Manju, former Corporators Prashanth Gowda, M. Shivanna and                                                                 Pushpavalli, City Congress President R. Murthy, Mysuru-Chamarajanagar District Vokkaligara Sangha office-bearers, Rajya Yuva Vokkaligara Sangha President Charan and others were  present.

The Police had provided tight security during the rally.
