2,375 patients undergo free angioplasty at Jayadeva Hospital in 12 years

Mysuru: Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Mysuru and Bengaluru, conducted free angioplasty procedures on 175 patients recently and had also organised a workshop in this regard.

 Speaking at a workshop in Mysuru, Dr. C.N. Manjunath, Director of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, said that with support from Dr. Subramani Heart Foundation in the US and Medtronic Vascular Company, a workshop was conducted at Bengaluru Hospital where 125 poor patients underwent free angioplasty procedure and 50 patients in Mysuru. 

He further said that in 12 years, 2,200 patients underwent free angioplasty procedure at a cost of Rs. 15 crore. Nearly 30 per cent of doctors who studied in India have settled in America and only one per cent serves in India. He lauded the services of  NRIs Dr. Subramani and Dr. Devaraj.

Dr. Manjunath said that if one goes by studies conducted during past 10 years, 60 percent of people suffer from diabetes, 55 percent from high blood pressure, 50 percent suffer from cholesterol and heart ailments and of them, 70 percent are non-vegetarians. Change in lifestyle and food habits is a major cause of ailments, he regretted.

Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research Medical Superintendent Dr. K.S. Sadananda, RMO Dr. Pandurangaiah, Dr. Harsha Basappa, Dr. Santosh, Dr. Ranjith, Dr. Bharathi and others were present during the workshop in Mysuru Hospital.
