28 percent GST: Turf Authorities of India to move Apex Court

Mysore/Mysuru: Following the decision of Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council to impose 28 percent GST on full value of bets placed in horse racing, a decision has been made to file a writ petition at the Supreme Court (SC).

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by K.M. Chandre Gowda, the Chairman of Mysore Race Club (MRC) Limited, who is also the head of Turf Authorities of India, at a private hotel in Ooty, Tamil Nadu, recently.

Apart from GST, the meeting also discussed about State Account and the issues related to management of race courses in the country. Among the Chairmen and Secretaries of seven different Turf Authorities, including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad, a few attended the meeting in person, while a few others attended through Zoom meeting.
