Mysuru: A three-day All India Sociological Conference, organised by the Indian Sociological Society (ISS), will be held in city from Dec.27 to 29.
Speaking to reporters here yesterday, Conference Organising Secretary Prof. M. Rafael said that the 44th All India Sociological Conference will be held on the theme ‘Reconstructing Sociological Discourse in India: Perspectives from the Margins’ at the Postgraduate Block of St. Philomena’s College in city.
Prof. Margaret Abraham, Immediate Past-President, International Sociological Association and Professor of Sociology, Hofstra University, New York, USA, will inaugurate the Conference at 10.30 am on Dec.27.
Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore (UoM), will be the chief guest. Rt. Rev. Dr. K.A. William, Bishop of Mysuru, Rev. Dr. Bernard Prakash Barnis, Rector, St. Philomena’s College, Mysuru, will be present.
The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Prof. M.N. Karna and Prof. Gail Omvedt. Professor M.N. Srinivas Memorial Prize will be presented to Dr. Subhasis Sahoo from the Central University of Allahabad. Prof. R. Indira, President, Indian Sociological Society, will preside, he added.
Prof. Rafael also informed that around 850 delegates from across the country are expected to take part in the Conference.
