3 lose money in online fraud

Mysore/Mysuru: In the latest incident of online fraud in the city, three persons have together lost Rs. 76,699 to online fraudsters in three separate incidents reported from different parts of the city.

In the first incident, K.B. Salim Mallik, 30, a resident of Veene Seshanna Road lost Rs. 26,999 to an online vehicle buying and selling fraud. Salim, who wanted to buy a motorbike, saw an advertisement in OLX online trading and called two numbers 9432519517 and 9395238768, when the person at the other end replied that he was an Army man and wanted to sell his bike. The man, later asked Salim to WhatsApp his Aadhaar card details and a photograph, which he did. He also got Rs. 26,999 transferred to his name. But subsequent calls to the said mobile phone numbers went without replies. Salim, who felt cheated, lodged a complaint at CEN Police Station.

In the second incident, an elderly person B. Mohan Raj, 68, lost Rs. 30,700 to an online money doubling fraud. Mohan Raj, a resident of Gangothri Apartments in V.V. Mohalla, saw an online advertisement in which a marketing company assured doubling of investment.

Responding to the advertisement, Mohan Raj invested small sums of money in the advertised marketing company and also got returns a few times. Getting confident, Mohan Raj invested Rs. 30,700. But in this case, he never got his money back.

In the third incident, B. Mahadevaswamy, 41, a resident of JSS Layout, lost Rs. 19,000, when he clicked on the link sent by online fraudsters, who had called Mahadevaswamy, after he had downloaded Yono App, asking him to immediately update his PAN card. Soon after Mahadevaswamy clicked the sent link, Rs. 19,000 got transferred from his account.

All the three cases have been registered in Mysuru CEN Police Station.
