30 artistes chosen for Janapada Academy Awards

Beesu Kamsale artiste Puttaswamy of Mysuru and Rani Machaiah of Kodagu among awardees

Bengaluru: Thirty senior folk artistes, one from each district, and two folk experts will be presented the Karnataka Janapada Academy Awards for 2017. While the artistes will get a purse of Rs. 25,000 and a citation, the folk experts will be awarded Rs. 50,000 and a citation.

Announcing the names of award winners here on Monday, Academy Chairman B. Takappa Kannuru said that the awards will be presented during the two-day Folk Convention to be held from Dec. 28 at Sagara in Shivammoga.

The award winners are: Ganganarasamma (Sobane Pada – Ramanagaram); G. Siddanagowda (Folk Song – Davanagere); K.R. Hosalaiah (Veerabhadra Kunitha – Tumakuru); H.K. Papanna (Dasarapada – Bengaluru Urban); Akkayyamma (Marriage songs – Bengaluru Rural); Maramma (Sobane Pada – Kolar); Shanthamma (Traditional songs – Chikkaballapur); D. Thimmappa (Kolata Pada – Chitradurga); K. Vasudevappa (Tribal Healer – Shivamogga); Hanumavva Walikar (Traditional Songs – Koppal); Shivamma Burrakathe (Burrakathe – Ballari); Shivappa Hebbala (Hejje Kunitha – Yadgir); Rukavva (Tatva Pada – Raichur); Nagappa Kashampura (Moharram Pada -Bidar); Ismail Sab (Gigi Pada – Kalaburagi); Veerabhadrappa U. Mullura (Gigi Bhajan – Dharwad); Jakkavva Satyappa Madara (Gigi Pada – Bagalkot); Sabavva Annappa Koli (Traditional Songs – Belagavi); Jagadeva Golavva Madyala (Bhajan – Vijayapura); Maharudrappa Veerappa Itagi (Puravanthike – Haveri); Ramappa Dyamappa Koravara (Dollina Pada – Gadag); Somayya Sannagonda (Gondara Dakke Kunitha – Uttara Kannada); Puttaswamy (Beesu Kamsale – Mysuru); S.G. Jayanna (Chowdakki Pada – Chikkamagaluru); Krishne Gowda (Garudi Gombe – Mandya); Sannashetti (Neelagarara Kavya – Chamarajanagar); Lakshmamma (Bhajane Pada – Hassan); Leela Shedthi (Siripaddana – Dakshina Kannada); Rani Machaiah (Ummathat – Kodagu); and Guruva Dolu (Koragara Dolu – Udupi).

The folk experts selected for the award are: N. Huchappa Mastara (Dr. Jee. Sham. Pa. Award – Shivamogga) and Shalini Raghunatha (Dr. B.S. Gaddagimath Award – Dharwad).
