Company ties up with JSS and Apollo BGS Hospitals to screen all 3,500 staff
Mysore/Mysuru: Industrial safety during COVID-19 pandemic is back in focus after over 41 employees of Mysuru-based JK Tyre and Industries contracted the Coronavirus. This is the second industry in Mysuru that has recorded virus spread with the first one being Jubilant Generics in Nanjangud where many employees tested positive in March forcing the District Administration to treat it as a cluster case.
As 41 of its employees tested positive, JK Tyre has suspended operation in those particular units where the positive cases emerged to break the chain. The entire plant (two branches in Mysuru – Hebbal and Metagalli) will be sanitised regularly. Also, the Company management has tied up with JSS Hospital and BGS Apollo Hospital to conduct screening and health checkups of all employees. Symptomatic patients will have to undergo COVID-19 tests, said D.K. Lingaraju, Joint Director District Industries Centre (DIC).
Speaking to Star of Mysore this morning, Lingaraju said that there are over 3,500 employees in the factory. “As 41 employees tested positive, certain units of the plant have been sealed down for two days while the entire production has not been stopped. I have visited the plants and inspected the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) followed there. The authorities at the plant are following the guidelines and I have instructed them to intensify the measures,” he added.
The company has taken the initiative of associating itself with JSS and Apollo Hospitals to screen all the 3,500 employees where symptomatic staff will be subjected to COVID tests. “The two plants in Hebbal and Metagalli will be sanitised. Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Sankar has directed the Company management to ensure that the virus does not spread like it happened in Nanjangud. The company officials are working closely with the DIC and the Health Department in this regard,” he said.
He said that he had instructed the authorities to give priority in sanitising the plant and creating awareness about safety measures among the staff.
On the employees who have tested positive, Lingaraju said that all of them have been shifted to the designated hospitals and COVID care centres. “Their primary and secondary contacts are being identified and screened. Their swab samples will be taken and will be sent for tests,” he said.
