42 lakh manual work days created under MNREGA Scheme in district

Mysore/Mysuru: Maintaining that 42 lakh manual work days have been created in the district under MNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Gurantee Act) Scheme, Mysuru Zilla Panchayat (ZP) CEO A.M.Yogesh said that the district has exceed the 34 lakh target.

He was speaking at the MNREGA Day celebration organised by T. Narasipur’s  MNREGA Workers Welfare Association at Vaidyanatheshwara temple premises at Talakad in T.Narasipur taluk recently.

Maintaining that the MNREGA scheme is a boon for rural employment, he said that the district has achieved 120 percent target in respect of creation of manual work days. Noting that many works were taken up during the COVID pandemic in order to help the rural population, Yogesh said that works on development of 547 water bodies in the district was taken up under the scheme. Mysuru district has an excellent record in lake development, he added.

ZP Deputy Secretary K.C. Devarajegowda said that India is a country of villages and as such many schemes and initiatives have been introduced to help the rural population. Observing that MNREGA has played a major role in rural employment, he said that the scheme is key for rural livelihood and development of villages.

Nagamani, Puttasiddamma, Muddamma and Chinnammanni, who took part in all the 100 days of manual work, were felicitated on the occasion.

Assistant Planning Officer V.P. Kuldeep, T. Narasipur TMC EO Krishna, Periyapatna TMC EO C.R. Krishnakumar, Mysuru TP Assistant Director K.M. Raghunath and other officials were present.
