44 gamblers arrested in city; stake money of Rs. 19.27 lakh seized

Gambling menace spreads to city extensions

Mysore/Mysuru: In separate cases, the City Crime Branch (CCB) Police, who raided a hotel room on JLB Road and a room behind a garage in Aditya Layout on Oct. 18 and 19, have arrested 44 persons who were involved in gambling and have seized Rs. 19.27 lakh stake money from them.

In the first case, the CCB Police, on Oct. 18, raided a room behind a garage near Yashaswini Choultry at Aditya Layout on Hunsur Main Road, coming under Vijayanagar Police limits, have arrested 32 persons involved in gambling and have seized Rs. 17,24,000 stake money and 52 playing cards from them.

A case has been registered at Vijayanagar Police Station.

In the second case, the CCB Police raided a room of a hotel in Chamaraja Mohalla on JLB Road coming under Lakshmipuram Police limits and have arrested 12 persons who were involved in gambling and have seized Rs. 2,03,000 stake money from them.

A case has been registered at Lakshmipuram Police Station.

DCP (Crime and Traffic) M.S. Geetha Prasanna and CCB ACP C.K. Ashwathnarayan guided CCB H&B Inspector G. Shekar and staff Saleem Khan, Ravikumar, Ramaswamy, P.N. Lakshmikanth, Yakub Shariff, Anand, Pavan, Nabipatel, Mahesh, Chandrashekar, Gautham, T. Prakash, Madhusudhan and Govinda in the nabbing and seizing operation.

As the menace of gambling was increasing in city and illegal gambling taking place at many places taking youths in the wrong direction, which may also encourage criminal activities and also labourers losing their hard earned money by gambling, the CCB Police raided such gambling dens and have arrested the gamblers.
