June 19, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru: Indore, known for its consistent top rankings in cleanliness among Indian cities, has served as a source of inspiration. This morning, a 48-member team from Mysuru city left for Indore to study Indore’s sanitation model and implement its solid waste management techniques in Mysuru.

The team, led by Mayor Shivakumar, comprising 46 Corporators, one Environment Engineer and the Personal Secretary of the Mayor, left for Bengaluru by road and will take a 4 pm flight to Indore. The team will return on Friday.

According to Mayor Shivakumar, the purpose of the visit was to gain insights into the best practices implemented by the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC). During their study tour, the delegation will closely examine the sanitation initiatives carried out by the IMC, as well as the city’s overall development. IMC officials will provide detailed explanations about their solid waste management processes to the visiting team.

The delegation will also visit solid waste management plants and a landfill site to gain insights into garbage segregation techniques, waste disposal methods, and door-to-door  waste collection.

Cleanliness, solid and sewage disposal and treatment, compost production, generation of piped natural gas (PNG) and the revenue model of PNG will be the focus areas of the study, sources told Star of Mysore.

The IMC officials will present and highlight the initiatives undertaken to ensure cleanliness over the past six years, including information on penalties for littering, such as spot fines and garbage collection charges. The Mysuru team will closely observe the system in action.
