Bengaluru: Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said he would review the State Government’s amended Act allowing utilising up to 5 percent of parks and garden land for other purposes. He said the matter would be discussed along with a draft bill during the next Assembly session.

Speaking to mediapersons, the CM said that he would review into the proposal and also examine why the proposal to allocate 5 percent of park land was brought, what did the previous governments do and who were its beneficiaries.

Stating that there was no discussion while passing the amendment to the Karnataka Government Parks (Preservation) Act, Shivakumar (referring to opposition parties), said they were protesting now.

“I am ready to discuss the matter in the Assembly. I am aware how they (BJP) allotted parks and other lands. There is no need for people to worry. I am aware how to protect the park land,” he added.

The amendment to Karnataka Government Parks (Preservation) Act, 1975, allows the State to sell, lease, transfer, gift or alienate up to 5% of a protected park’s total area.
