Property owners queue up before MCC Zonal Offices

Mysore/Mysuru: With the Mysuru City Corporation  (MCC) announcing its usual practise of 5 percent rebate on property tax (2026-27) in the entire month from April 1 to 30, property owners across the city were seen visiting the MCC Zonal Offices this morning for payment of their property tax and avail the rebate.

On the first day yesterday, only online payments were facilitated as banks were closed on account of  closure of Annual Accounts. Yesterday, the MCC collected a revenue of Rs. 1,69,45,352 from 5,843 properties. With the banks open as usual today, the revenue collection may significantly go up with offline payments too in addition to online payments.

The authorities have set up two counters in all the 9 MCC Zonal Offices, facilitating both online and offline property tax payments.

Last year (2025-26), the MCC collected a Revenue of Rs. 242 crore as against the set target of Rs. 240 crore, thus exceeding the target by Rs. 2 crore. This year, with the MCC hiking property tax by 3 percent, the Civic body hopes to rope in a revenue of Rs. 265 crore on this account in the current financial year (2026-27).

Speaking to Star of Mysore this morning, MCC Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) G.S. Somashekar said that there are as many as 2,31,736 properties in the MCC’s property tax net, out of which 2,10,770 have authorised e-Khatas and 20,066 unauthorised e-Khatas.

“This year, with the upward revision (3 %) of taxes, the MCC hopes to generate a revenue of Rs. 265 crores from Property tax alone. The property owners can avail of the 5 percent rebate till Apr. 30. After this deadline ends,  property tax will be collected without any rebate till June. 30 and from July.1, the property tax collection comes with a penalty of 2 percent every month. Two dedicated counters have been opened at all the 9 Zonal offices to ease the rush,” Somashekar  said and appealed the citizens to utilise this  5 percent rebate opportunity for paying up their annual property tax to the civic body. Drinking water, shelter (Pendal) and adequate seating arrangements have been made at all the Zonal offices for the comfort of tax payers, he added.
