Social Welfare Department presents ‘Pratibha Puraskar’ to hostelites

Mysore/Mysuru: Highlighting that the population of women in the country is nearly equal to that of men, Dr. Krishnamurthy Chamaram, a faculty member at KSOU, advocated for a 50 percent reservation for women. He expressed this view during his recent address at the inauguration of ‘Pratibha Puraskar’ Presentation Ceremony and Seminar organised by Social Welfare Department at the Post-Matric Girls’ Hostel-2 in Bogadi. Dr. Krishnamurthy Chamaram pointed out that women make up approximately 50 percent of the total Indian population of 140 crore.

He emphasised that women have played a pivotal role in numerous developmental activities and as a result, they are rightfully demanding a 50 percent reservation in both job opportunities and education. This demand is in line with the increasing influence of women across various sectors.

He stressed the importance of following Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Constitution and highlighted that Dr. Ambedkar, as the Labour Minister during the pre-Independence era, was well aware of the challenges faced by the working class.

During his address, Social Welfare Department Joint Director B. Rangegowda encouraged students to study Dr. Ambedkar’s thoughts and incorporate them into their lives. He underscored the significance of focusing on their studies and called upon the students to contribute to society in a meaningful way.

Prominent woman activist Premabodhi also shared her insights during the event.

Additionally, students from the hostel, who had scored high marks in public exams, were honoured.

The event was attended by Social Welfare Department Assistant Director K. Siddalinga, Hostel Warden M. Chandramma, Singer Mariswamy, Rashmi Naripura, Nischitha and others.
