600 NCC cadets converge in Mysuru for inter-group camp

Mysuru: The National Cadet Corps (NCC), Mysuru Group, has been conducting the inter-group competitions for Karnataka and Goa Directorate. The camp, which began on Nov. 9 at Ursu Boarding School in city, will culminate on Nov. 18.  

About 600 cadets from six groups — Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Ballari, Mysuru, Belagavi and Goa are vying to compete against each other in various events such as Military Drill, Cultural Programmes, Tent Area and Flag Area which showcases the State of Karnataka and Goa.

The teams from Karnataka and Goa are accompanied by senior officers and are headed by Deputy Director General Col. S. Nandakumar, who will be judging the events and selecting the cadets.

Col. M.K. Belliappa, Group Commander of Mysuru Group, informed that it was a prestigious competition where the best of cadets are selected to participate in the Republic Day camp.

He said that it was a dream for every NCC cadet to represent the State on the Republic Day parade and added NCC was an excellent platform for cadets and students to improve their discipline, self-confidence and personality and is completely sponsored by the State and Central Governments.

The results of the competitions will be announced on Nov. 16. The cadets are subjected to various kinds of drills to make sure they get ready for D-day. This apart, the selected cadets will also get to take part in the National Integration Awareness Programme (NIAP) where they get to showcase the cultural diversity of both Karnataka and Goa. Currently, the camp is being conducted under the supervision of Camp Commandant Lt. Col. Jagadish G. Nair, who is also the Commanding Officer of 13 KAR NCC Battalion, which has been given the responsibility of conducting the inter-group camp.

The NCC Contingent of a State, which is adjudged the best for excellent performance, will be awarded the Championship Banner during the PM’s Rally to be held on Jan. 27.
