61 Jail Wardens pass out from Prison Staff Training College

June 23, 2017

Mysuru: The 44th Passing Out Parade of Jail Wardens was held in city this morning where 61 candidates from across the State passed out from Mysuru Prison Staff Training College after obtaining nine-month training.

The parade was marked by an attractive and systematic march-past where senior Police officers led by Director General of Police (Prisons) H.N. Sathyanarayana Rao took the salute. Additional Director General of Police (Prisons) G. Veerabhadraswamy was the chief guest.

Jail wardens have undergone training in both indoor and outdoor activities and have been taught to manage jail inmates. Sufficient training has also been provided to handle problematic inmates too.

A notable fact in this 44th Passing Out Parade is that of the 61 candidates, one candidate has completed his engineering degree, five are diploma degree holders 10 D.Ed and 34 degree holders.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, Santhosh Kalasannavar from Belagaavi who has an engineering degree in bio-technology said that he turned down many job offers in IT-BT companies. “I rejected the offers as serving prison inmates is my passion,” he said.

In his address, DGP Prisons) Sathyanarayana Rao opined that these days prisons are turning into reform and rehabilitation centres. “Earlier, the focus was more on punishment and now the concentration is on reforming the hardened criminals. In this situation, your responsibility is more and you should be good to do good for prisoners,” he said.

The State government has sanctioned 1,811 new posts to prisons department and has provided with facilities including video conferencing and computers.

NEW TECHNOLOGY FOR MYSURU JAIL

On the long-pending issue of shifting Mysuru Central Prison, Sathyanarayana Rao said that the proposal was before the government.

On the reports of Mysuru jail inmates speaking with mobile phones with their contacts outside, he said that an advanced “F1 G1 Pole” jammer has been installed inside the jail and this has prevented the use of mobiles inside jails. The government sanctioned five such instruments to various jails in the State and Mysuru has got one, he added.

City Police Commissioner Dr. A Subramanyeshwara Rao, IGP South Vipul Kumar, SP Ravi D. Channannavar, Chief Jail Superintendents Anand Reddy, Krishnakumar and D.P. Sheshamurthy, Deputy Jail Superintendents Divyashree, Dr. Anitha, T.S. Ramesh and Ramanath were present.
