69th Junior National Basketball Championship: Tamil Nadu women retain title

Tamil Nadu women retained the National Junior Women’s title by beating Kerala 77-56 in the final played at the Ludhiana Basketball Academy, Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana, yesterday.

It was expected to be a much more competitive face off but TN girls took a good lead in the first half of the final game and continued to dominate throughout the game.

Vaishnavi Yadav retained her excellent form scoring 53 points after an average performance in the semi-finals to help Uttar Pradesh women finish in the 3rd position. Punjab men secured the 3rd position beating Delhi after a disappointing semifinals loss last night against Kerala.

3rd & 4th Place: Punjab (Rajan 39 points, Jagshanbir 19) bt Delhi (Aditya 27) 97-44 [16-11, 25-11, 29-17, 27-08].

5th & 6th Place: UP (Akshay 24, Rishant 12) bt TN (Arvind 28) 83-77 [23-16, 19-13, 16-21, 25-27].

Finals

TN (Aishwary 17, Pratibha 15, Pushpa 14) bt Kerala (Sreekala 14, Ann Mary 12) 77-58 [21-10, 24-20, 22-14, 10-14]

3rd & 4th Place

UP (Vaishnavi 53, Kavya 13) bt Karnataka (Sanjana 12) 72-32 [14-10, 19-07, 17-10, 22-05].

5th & 6th Place

Maharashtra (Neha 27, Shreya 14) bt Punjab (Rajandeep 13, Sakshi 11) 59-49 [09-18, 22-11, 16-06, 12-14].
