700 dustbins to maintain cleanliness on prominent roads of city

November 20, 2017

Mysuru: In a bid to effectively implement ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ in city, MCC will place 700 dustbins along important commercial roads of the city at a cost of  Rs. 33 lakh.

MCC Commissioner G. Jagadeesha, as part of an effort to keep the city clean ahead of the arrival of Swachh Survekshan (Survey) officials in city, has embarked on this new initiative, for which the tender process has been completed.

In the first phase, 350 dustbins will be placed along Sayyaji Rao Road, Dhanvantri Road, Ashoka Road, JLB Road in the heart of the city and commercial roads in Kuvempunagar and Vivekanandanagar.

These dustbins will be placed at a distance of 50 mts from each other, thus benefiting the staff of nearby commercial and business establishments, who now do not have to walk long in search of dustbins for dumping waste.

The MCC will put up boards asking people only to dump dry wastes in these dustbins. Following a request by area Corporator Sunil Kumar (Ward No.4), the MCC Commissioner is said to have decided to launch this project from Ramanuja Road.

However, the Commissioner has one reason to be worried as a steel bin costing Rs. 5,000 placed in front of Devaraja Market for the benefit, was stolen by some miscreants.

Commissioner G. Jagadeesha wonders how people-friendly initiatives can be launched if such thefts happen. He has lodged a complaint with the Devaraja Police in connection with the theft of steel bin.
