Over 70,000 people had breakfast at Sammelana

Over 70,000 people had sumptuous breakfast and over 2 lakh people had lunch and dinner on the inaugural day of the 83rd Kannada Sahitya Sammelana yesterday at the three venues – Maharaja’s College Grounds, Scouts and Guides Grounds and the Ursu Boarding School.

The Food Committee has the responsibility of ensuring that quality and tasty food is supplied in an orderly manner at all the three locations and there are effective waste management systems. On day one, breakfast, lunch and dinner had a variety of dishes including sweet and khara pongal, poori-saagu, methi ricebath, rice-sambar, curd-rice, papad, pickles, kajjaya, vegetable biriyani, rice-rasam, curd-rice and rice payasa. According to Dr. K. Rameshwarappa, Senior Dy. Director, Food and Civil Supplies Department, who is in charge of food arrangements at the meet, breakfast was served as early as 4 am till about noon and lunch was served even till 6 pm as there was huge demand.
