Tennis: Mustafa, Surabhi bag titles

Mysuru: Third seed and local lad Mustafa Murtuza and second seed Surabhi Srinivas (both from Karnataka), hogged the limelight on the concluding day of the MTC AITA Talent Series U-14 (boys & girls) Tennis Tournament 2018, conducted by MTC at its courts here recently, by winning the Boys Singles and Girls Singles titles respectively.

In the U-14 boys Singles final, Mustafa Murtaza playing some consistent tennis against seventh seed Kunsh M. Gowda, came back strongly after losing the first set at 0-6, to win the next two sets at 6-0, 6-1 and clinched the title. Mustafa also completed a fine double by winning the Mixed Doubles title teaming up with M. Jasha.

Mustafa also finished runner-up in the Boys Doubles event.

In the girls U-14 Singles, second seeded Surabhi Srinivas, came back from brink of defeat against fifth seeded State-mate Adaya Madhu Bhat to win the title 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (10-8). Surabhi saved at-least four match points in two successive games, after being down 4-5 (15-40) and 5-6 (15-40), levelled at 5-5 and 6-6 and in the tie-breaker, after a ding-dong battle won the title.

The prizes were given to the winners by Alagappan, President, Mysore Tennis Club (MTC).

Jasha (Kar) bt J. Apoorva/ Adaya M. Bhat (Kar) 7-5, 6-4; Mixed Doubles: Mustafa Murtuza/ M. Jasha (Kar) bt J. Trishul/Surabhi Srinivas 6-2, 6-3.
