Student Chapter of Fluid Power Society of India inaugurated at NIE

Mysuru:  The Student Chapter of Fluid Power Society of India (FPSI) was inaugurated at National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysuru, at a programme jointly hosted by Department of Mechanical Engineering and Department of Industrial & Production Engineering recently.

Yoganarasimha, Consultant & Board of Advisors, FPSI, inaugurated the Student Chapter. Speaking on the occasion, he stressed the importance of fluid power systems and its application in industries such as excavators, earth moving equipment and the aviation sector. He briefed the gathering on the status-quo of fluid power in India and advised the students to utilise the knowledge gained through the FPSI chapter in their careers.

FPSI is a non-profit professional body, committed to promoting fluid power knowledge and technology in the country. It has set up many Student Chapters in India. In all, 180 students are members of FPSI, NIE Chapter.

Dr. M.V. Achutha, Professor and Head of the Mechanical Department, highlighted the benefits of FPSI Student Chapter in securing placements, internships and projects. He also thanked D.A. Prasanna, Director, NIE Managing Committee, for his initiative towards introducing the FPSI chapter.

Dr. G. Ravi, Principal, NIE, spoke about fluid power systems and its relevance to various engineering streams.

Dr. Prasanna Kumar, Advisor, FPSI, briefed the activities conducted by the body such as technical discussions, guest lectures by industry experts, industry visits and workshops. This helped students gain a better understanding on the subject. He also named the various institutions and industries, where FPSI has conducted its activities over the last few years

Rangan, Joint Secretary, FPSI, and General Manager, Sales and Marketing, Walvoil Fluid Power India Pvt Ltd, highlighted the applications of fluid power systems in domains such as earth moving machinery, construction equipment machinery, leisure industry machinery and the aircraft sector. Subhadeep Sen, Head, Secretariat FPSI, Bengaluru, explained the various objectives of FPSI Student Chapter, its benefits and latest developments in fluid power sector.

He added that one of the primary goals of the Student Chapter is to encourage engineering pupils to take up the subject of fluid power. He also discussed the diverse career opportunities in this domain.

S.N. Rashmi, Assistant Professor, Department of Industrial & Production Engineering discussed the roles of office-bearers. M. Aruna, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Coordinator of FPSI Student Chapter, proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. Sham Prasad, Head of Industrial & Production, was present.
