Prajwal Revanna to take a political plunge

April 8, 2017

Likely to contest either from Hunsur or Holenarasipura

Bengaluru – It’s official. Prajwal Revanna, the scion of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda’s family, will enter politics. Son of H.D. Revanna and Bhavani Revanna, Prajwal, as hinted by Deve Gowda sometime back, will be at the helm in active politics.

It may be recalled here that recently, JD(S) Supremo Gowda had said in Bengaluru that he had brought his grandson (Prajwal) into the party. “However, so far he has not been given any position in the party. Hassan constituency will be looked after by my son Revanna and Prajwal Revanna,” he had said.

Speaking to a private TV channel yesterday, Prajwal, who has studied in Australia, said that he would announce his decision at a suitable time. “I have not taken a plunge into politics all of a sudden. I have been doing the ground work since the last six years,” he said.

“I have not discussed my entry into politics with the party High Command and this might be the reason why State JD(S) President H.D. Kumaraswamy (Prajwal’s uncle) would have said that only he and my father H.D. Revanna would be in politics. I will, however, discuss these issues at the party forum,” he said.

On family politics, he said that no political party was beyond family politics. “I have been pained by reports that have targeted me for being born to a political family. If a doctor’s son can be a doctor and an engineer’s son can be an engineer why can’t a politician’s son be a politician,” he wondered.

Giving instances of political dynasties, he said that BJP State President B.S. Yeddyurappa’s son B.Y. Raghavendra, brother of former CM Jagadeesh Shettar and the son of BJP leader K.S. Eshwarappa have entered active politics. “What is wrong in me entering politics?” he questioned.

Prajwal, a Mechanical Engineer, was not forthcoming about his target constituency from where he will fight the next election. But he indirectly hinted at Holenarasipura (Hassan) or Hunsur. “I don’t believe in back-door entry into politics. I want to fight and win an election in a democratic way,” he added.
