Mysuru: The two-day 6th Mysuru District Kannada Sahitya Sammelana will be held at Periyapatna on Dec.23 and 24.
Announcing this at a press meet here yesterday, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Dr. Y.D. Rajanna said that the literary meet will commence at the Government PU College at Periyapatna with local MLA K. Mahadev unfurling the flag at 8.30 am on Dec.23.
Sammelana Chairperson Indudhar Honnapura will be taken in a procession at 9 am, which will be flagged off by ZP President Nayeema Sulthana, he said.
Continuing, Rajanna said that District Minister G.T. Devegowda will inaugurate the Sammelana at 10.30 am in the presence of MP Pratap Simha, Kannada and Culture Minister Jayamala, MLAs A.H.Vishwanath, Tanveer Sait and Dr. Yathindra Siddharamaiah. The first ‘Ghosti’ of the meet will take place at 2.30 pm, followed by the second at 4 pm and the third at 5.15 pm.
The second day’s programme on Dec.24 will begin at 10 am, followed by the second at 11 am, third at 3pm and the fourth at 4pm. Former Kannada Development Authority Chairman Dr. S.G. Siddharamaiah will deliver the valedictory address at 6 pm in the presence of Bettadapura Salilakhya Mutt Seer Channabasava Deshikendra Swamiji. Tourism Minister S.R. Mahesh and others will be present, he said.
Writer Jayappa Honnali, Parishat office-bearers K.S. Nagaraj and Rajashekar Kadamba, former District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President M. Chandrashekar, activist K.S. Shivaram and others were present at the press meet.
Preparations in full swing
With just a day to go for the 2-day literary meet, final touches are being given to the arrangements at the Government Junior College ground in Periyapatna.
Make-shift toilets have been built separately for men and women and arrangements have been made to provide drinking water to the gathering.
The entire Periyapatna Town wears a festive look, with B.M. Road, Gonikoppa Road and other prominent roads of the town dotted with flex boards. All the major streets of the town have been decorated with special lightings.
More than 20 Committees have been formed to ensure success of the meet. The taluk administration has made seating arrangements for over 4,000 people at the venue. Bookstalls have come up at the venue. Overall, the ground is all set for hosting the 2-day meet.
The District Kannada Sahitya Sammelana is taking place at Periyapatna after a gap of 8 years and the Taluk administration with co-operation from all stakeholders, is making all efforts to ensure that the event is a remarkable one. Taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Goralli Jagadish and local MLA K. Mahadev are overseeing all the arrangements.
