The 4th State-level Stick-Fighting Tournament was organised by the Karnataka Sports Silambam Association at Basaveshwara Kalyana Mantap in Vinayakanagar here on Sunday.
Speaking after inaugurating the tournament, MCDCC Bank President G.D. Harish Gowda said that tournaments of Stick-Fighting and other such rural art should be held regularly in order to protect and nurture them.
Mysore Karate Association President Sosale Siddaraju, who also spoke, said that Stick-Fighting was one of the many rural sports which was fading and added that it is only Silambam Association which was protecting and nurturing the rural sport and called upon the youth to show interest in such rural sports by learning them.
In the Best Stick Fighter category, Vijayanagar’s B. Tejas was crowned winner while M.D. Muthappa of Hebbal bagged the runner-up place.
More than 120 participants took part in the Tournament out of which over 60 participants won in various categories.
Karnataka Sports Silambam Association President N.A. Madhav, organiser M.B. Chidanand, Sudhakar and others were present.
