Various organisations, activists stage protest in city

Assault bid on Minister Tanveer Sait

Mysuru – Condemning the alleged attempt to assault Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait at his chambers in Vidhana Soudha recently and seeking stringent action against those involved in the assault bid, various organisations and activists staged a protest in city yesterday.

The protestors, who assembled at Gandhi Square, said that Tanveer Sait had brought many reforms in the education sector after becoming the Minister  and alleged that some persons in the name of Dalit organisations attempted to assault the Minister and even issued murder threats.

Demanding action against them, the protestors said that Tanveer Sait represents N.R. Constituency, which has more people belonging to dalit community who love the Minister and expressed anger that some vested interests were involved in defaming the Minister by spreading rumours that the he was anti-dalit.

Meanwhile, Ahimsa Vedike too has condemned the alleged attempt to assault the Minister.Expressing shock over the incident, they said that if such a thing can happen to a Minister, what about the common man?

Weavers  protest against writer’s statement

Strongly condemning veteran writer and research scholar Dr. Chidanandamurthy’s recent statement that Devara Dasimayya and Jedara Dasimayya were not one and the same, members of Rajya Nekarara Hitharakshana Vedike staged a candle light demonstration in front of Gandhiji’s bust opposite the City Law Courts Complex here yesterday evening.

Maintaining that Devara Dasimayya and Jedara Dasimayya were one and the same and that there was enough proof about it, the protestors took strong objection to the research scholar’s habit of raking up controversies during Devara Dasimayya Jayanti every year.

Accusing Dr. Chidanandamurthy of changing his versions frequently, the protestors warned of intensifying the protest if the veteran writer continues to stir up such controversies.
